Turnkey Laboratory Case Study by SbyD
In 2018, we successfully completed a turnkey project for an agricultural research institute in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, covering an expansive area of 40,000 sq. ft. This cutting-edge facility was developed to enhance the research and development capabilities focused on increasing rice production capacity in South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. Our role in this project was to design and deliver a comprehensive research and training center, equipped with the latest technology to meet global standards in agricultural research.
The ground floor of the facility houses the Centre of Excellence in Rice Value Addition (CERVA), featuring a suite of modern laboratories dedicated to analytical work, milling quality, cooking quality, and sensory evaluation, including tasting booths for grain assessment. Additionally, we designed a state-of-the-art library, offering extensive resources to support ongoing research initiatives.

On the first floor, we provided flexible, technologically advanced training and lecture halls, which are supported by GIS rooms, conference rooms, director offices, meeting spaces, and collaborative areas. These spaces were designed to foster education, research, and collaboration, promoting the institute’s goals of agricultural innovation. Additionally, vibrant breakout spaces, including a lunch area, were incorporated to enhance the productivity and comfort of the researchers and staff.
Our scope of work included full Lab Design & Build services, including civil interiors and the installation of MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) systems. We also incorporated modular lab furniture and workspaces tailored to meet the specific requirements of agricultural research. This project stands as a prime example of our commitment to creating efficient, innovative environments that support global food security efforts and research excellence.
